Healthy Tips

Don't forget your Pure Neem Seed Oil. Its great for keeping those pesky bugs and mosquito's at bay. If you should happen to get bitten just apply a little Neem Oil. It can also be used for cuts and scrapes, as well as for acne, eczema and as a natural sun block. Use it in the garden for safe organic pest control. There's not much that Neem Oil can't help. Click here for Pure Neem Oil in 1oz. to 16 oz's sizes.

Speaking of Neem...if you are traveling oversees this year, you might want to consider taking Neem Plus Capsules before and during your trip. It can act as a natural antibiotic and even help ward off Malaria. It also helps to keep the bugs off. Neem has the ability to alkalize the blood which the mosquitoes don't seem to care for. Neem Plus can be used for eczema, acne and other skin problems as well as a ear and throat in infections. Neem is similar to tetracycline on a molecular level. So instead of reaching for an antibiotic, next time try Neem Plus first. It is quick to work, and you wont get the nasty side effects that often accompany traditional antibiotics. Summer Season - "Grishma"

According to Ayurveda the year is divided into six "ritus" or seasons. These divisions are based upon the position of the sun. The season from mid-May to mid-July is known as Grishma. During this period Pitta (heat/fire) is aggravated and Vata (air) increases on a daily basis. The internal fire of digestion is known as Agni, a name also used to refer to the Sun. As the external Agni (the summer sun) increases, our internal fire tends to weaken. Ayurveda advises us to pay attention to the seasons and adjust our lifestyle, eating habits, sleep, exercise and other routines in order to stay in harmony with nature. For instance, in the summer months it is best to exercise early in the morning, at the coolest time of the day so as to not aggravate one's Pitta. Likewise, we should wear light clothing, eat cool, light foods (such as fruits and salads), and avoid the heat of the sun as much as possible. Moreover, the hot sun can provoke us on an emotional level. Especially for those who already possess a high Pitta constitution, this can mean shorter tempers, rendering us more easily agitated and aggressive . The best approach to counteract these effects include avoiding excessive heat, reducing the spicing in your food, limiting salt intake, and in general staying cool. We've included a couple of fun summer recipes for you to try. Mango Lassis and Raita are both delicious and nutritious, and will be sure to keep you cool and satisfied in the heat of the summer!

Indications:

Shiljajit is one of the most incredible and healing herbs that has long been treasured in the Ayurvedic world. Until now not much has been written about this powerful substance. Recent articles and discussions are beginning to show up here in the west. There is not much that Shilajit cannot heal or aid in healing. It is used for everything from mending damaged nerve endings to enhancing the absorption of calcium. Shilajit has a catalytic ability to enhance the absorption of other nutrients, herbs and vitamins that are taken with it. For instance we have seen that Calcium is much more readily absorbed when taken with Shilajit. This is critical for women who are taking Calcium for osteoarthritis and general health. It is often difficult for our bodies to absorb these vital nutrients and minerals even while taking high quality supplements. Shilajit enhances our bodies' ability to absorb and fully use the valuable vitamins, minerals and nutrients in general. Our health is more dependent on minerals than on protein, carbohydrates or vitamins. Minerals are in every cell of the body and are vital for our overall mental and physical well-being. The body cannot manufacture any minerals. They must be obtained via diet. Due to depletion of minerals in the soil and in order to get enough minerals from the typical diet, we would have to eat more than we could possibly want to. The majority of the population is deficient in the 84 minerals required by the body and mind. The inevitable result is reduced health and longevity.

The ancient medical literature attributes many health benefits to Shilajit known as the Destroyer of weakness. Shilajit has been used historically for general physical strengthening, anti-aging, blood sugar stabilization, libido enhancement, injury healing, urinary tract rejuvenation, enhanced brain function, bone healing, kidney rejuvenation, Immune system strengthening, arthritis, hypertension, obesity and many other applications for numerous conditions.

Traditionally Shilajit was designed for countering Diabetes, regulating the blood sugar level, improving pancreas function, purifying the blood, improving spleen function, strengthening digestion, improving metabolism, reducing fat, dissolving tumors, reducing tiredness, counteracting thirst, as a powerful rejuvenator, and as a sexual enhancer

Shilajit is obtained from rocks in the Himalayan region. It is a form of mineral that drips from the cracks of the rocks during hot weather. It is the decomposition of plant matter in the rocks from thousands and ten of thousands of years in the past. The bio transformed plant matter is extruded from the rocks by geothermal pressures. It is collected in raw form for further purification. Walking high in the Himalayan Mountains, a thick rich paste oozing out from the rocks in the towering cliffs is Shilajit. It increases the core energy responsible for sexual and spiritual power, the same force that is withered by stress and anxiety. Shilajit is well known for renewing vitality. Shilajit is an exudate that is pressed out from layers of rock in sacred mountains in Nepal and other high mountains. It is composed of humus and organic plant material that has been compressed by layers of rock. Humus is formed when soil microorganisms decompose animal and plant material into elements usable by plants. Plants are the source of all our food and humus is the source of plant food. Unlike other soil humus, Shilajit humus consists of 60 - 80% organic mass. The Himalayan mountains continue to rise more than 1 Centimeter a year. During this transition the mineral rich and fertile soil of the sea bed gave rise to a lush and dense tropical jungle. As the ground continued to be pushed up to become mountains a lot of the plants became trapped by layers of rock and soil and remained preserved for thousands of years. These plants had never been exposed to any chemicals, fertilizers or pesticides. They are gradually transformed into Humus, a rich organic mass that is food for new plant life. Due to microbial action and the tremendous pressure from the weight of the mountains the Humus was transformed into a dense, viscous, mineral rich mass. This is Shilajit. The trapped layers of Shilajit become exposed due to the freezing winters, hot summer sun and erosion from monsoon rains. Shilajit will "flow" out from between the cracks in the layers of rock during the summer when the temperature of the mountains gets warm enough and the Shilajit becomes less viscous. The native Nepalese people them climb the mountains, repel down cliffs to collect the Shilajit.

Chemistry:

The porous Fulvic acid and Humic acids in Shilajit carry herbal compounds deeply into the tissues of the body. These porous carrying cavities also hook toxins and escort them out of the body.

Traditional Uses:

Analysis of Shilajit reveals that it is high in naturally occurring minerals and elements. Shilajit is Mother Nature's original organic Colloidal multi-mineral supplement with self assimilation qualities as compared to inorganic colloidal sources. And yet Shilajit is much more than colloidal minerals. It has unique properties not found in any other natural preparation. There is a folk saying by the indigenous people who live in the Himalayan region that Shilajit makes the body strong as a rock and there some rock-like qualities in Shilajit. There is hardly a disease that cannot be cured or least helped by Shilajit.

Shilajit amplifies the benefits of other herbs by enhancing their bio-availability. It helps transport nutrients deep into the tissue and removes deep-seated toxins. Shilajit improves memory and the ability to handle stress. Shilajit reduces recovery time in muscle, bone and nerve injuries. Shilajit stimulates the immune system and reduces chronic fatigue. It is an adaptogen, (Rasayna), that helps to combat immune disorders, urinary tract disorders, nervous disorders and sexual dissatisfaction. It promotes strong bones and heals damaged muscle tissues, and osteoarthritis.

In Sanskrit Shilajit means "Conqueror of mountains & destroyer of weakness". It is used in Ayurveda as an herbal rejuvenator, nervine tonic and natural stimulator. It has been shown to be a natural antioxidant and rejuvenator for the nervous system. It is a natural antioxidant and rejuvenative for the nervous system. There are very few herbs that are classified as a panacea but Shilajit is one of them. It will help carry the other herbal support into the deep tissues of the body. This is why is works so well on diabetes and insulin resistance - because it carries the blood sugar into the resistant cells. In the same way it helps to rejuvenate the body and Nervous system on a very deep level. It is not a stimulant to make you feel more energy - it actually helps to rebuild the nervous system.

4 servings.

Cucumber Raita

This traditional Indian dish is a wonderful sidedish to accompany a summer meal. It is a very cooling salad, great to serve alongside any spicy food.

  • 2 cups plain yoghurt
  • 1 medium cucumber peeled, drained and shredded or grated
  • 1/4 tsp. Crushed chilis
  • 1 tsp. Mustard seeds
  • 1—2 tsp. Oil or ghee
  • salt
  • fresh cilantro (coriander leaves) for garnish

Peel and grate the cucumber into bowl and squeeze out all the water. Toast the mustard seeds in oil or ghee over medium-high flame, add the chilis when the first seed pops and turn off heat when the mustard seeds stop popping. Add to the bowl of yoghurt and cucumbers, add salt to taste and stir until smooth. Garnish with cilantro (coriander leaves)

Indian Chapatis

Try this easy alternative to breads with yeast. Chapatis are a quick and healthy alternative to store bought breads. Use organic ingredients whenever possible.

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/3 cup yogurt or buttermilk
  • 1⁄2 to 3⁄4 cup water as needed
  • ghee or melted butter

In bowl combine flour and yogurt. Gradually add water, mixing with your hands until you have a soft dough. Knead for 5 minutes on floured tabletop.

Divide dough into 12 pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then press flat in the palms of your hands.

Place a cast iron skillet on medium heat so it will be a little hot by the time you are ready to cook the first chapati.

Roll flattened balls into 5-inch circles on a table or board covered with flour. Try to make the chapati as round as possible. After it is rolled, place on skillet. When the chapati starts bubbling on one side, turn it over and cook on the other side. This takes about 20 seconds on each side.

While first chapati is cooking in skillet, turn second burner on to medium heat. (If you have an electric range, use a small grill over the burner.)

After the chapati has been cooked in skillet, quickly take a pair of tongs and hold the chapati gently over medium heat until it puffs up. This should take about 5 seconds. Then hold chapati with tongs on other side and cook for another 5 seconds. Chapati will look like it is freckled with brown spots. Don't be discouraged if the chapati doesn't puff up all the time. This takes practice.

Brush with melted butter or ghee.
